Maria Estrada's Obituary
Maria Estrada passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Antioch, CA on Sept. 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old. Maria was born November 24, 1940 in Masaya, Nicaragua to Emilio Ramirez, and Hilda (Lopez) Ramirez.
Maria left her beloved Nicaragua as a small child in 1948 when the family immigrated to the United States. The family settled in San Francisco. Her siblings were Carlotta, Emilio, Silvio and Mary.
Maria attended Notre Dame High School in San Francisco. During a trip to Nicaragua in her late teens, she met Bayardo Estrada. On May 11, 1963 she and Bayardo were married at Mission Dolores in San Francisco.
The couple had six children: Roger, Irene, Silvio, Marlene, Tito, and Michael and raised them in San Francisco and for a short period, in Pacifica, California. The family lived briefly in Nicaragua, returning to the U.S. in 1976.
Maria was a member of the Regina Mundi Guild and Columbiettes organizations at Our Lady Queen of the World parish in Bay Point, California. Maria and Bayardo were also regulars at the C.C. Cafe senior center at the Ambrose Community Center in Bay Point.
Maria is survived by her husband Bayardo and her six children. She also is survived by her older brother, Emilio Ramirez. Maria leaves behind 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
