Maria Garza Gonzalez, affectionately known as "Mama Maria" and "Tita Maria," passed away on October 1, 2023, at the age of 81, surrounded by close family and friends. Born on November 17, 1941, in Yahualica, Jalisco - Mexico, she embarked on a life filled with love, compassion, and a profound impact on those fortunate enough to be part of her world.

Maria relocated to the United States in 1977 with her husband and 4 daughters. She worked as a field worker, picking produce, eventually landing a job as a cook in Brentwood, CA, at El Gallito Restaurant, where she worked for many years. Maria ultimately left the restaurant industry for an even more rewarding job as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker in Pittsburg, CA.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ignacio Garza and Florentina Gonzalez. Although she leaves behind an immeasurable void, her memory will forever be cherished by her adoring family. She is survived by her brother, Ramiro Garza, her daughters, Gloria Gutierrez, Yolanda Castañeda, Irma Murguia, and Angelica Carrasco, as well as her grandchildren, Ramon Gutierrez, Jose Jr. Gutierrez, Estevan Gutierrez, Antonio ("Toñito") Lozoya, Anthony Jr. Murguia, Madeline Murguia, Chris Carrasco, Giovanni Carrasco, and Jonathan Carrasco, who were the light of her life, giving her purpose and joy.

Maria's journey was marked by a deep appreciation for knowledge and utmost dedication to nurturing her family. She valued education and encouraged her children to pursue their dreams. While her own achievements and career may have been humble, her impact on the lives of her children and grandchildren was immeasurable.

Beyond her familial role, Maria also dedicated herself to her community. Known for her warm heart and unwavering support, Maria touched the lives of many. Whether it was offering words of encouragement to struggling neighbors or lending a helping hand to those in need, her kindness was always present.

Maria's nurturing nature allowed her to be a pillar of strength to those around her. Her unconditional love and understanding were a source of comfort during challenging times. She had a remarkable ability to uplift spirits and inspire those she encountered. Her wise and encouraging words, spoken with a gentle voice, will echo in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In her leisure time, Maria found solace in simple pleasures. Gardening brought her immense joy as she meticulously tended her vibrant flowers, creating a serene oasis in her backyard. Maria also cherished moments spent in the kitchen preparing delicious meals, expertly infusing her dishes with love and tradition. She loved to share her culinary creations, especially her famous tamales, knowing that the best memories are often made around the dining table.

To Mama Maria, your nurturing spirit and loving heart will forever be missed. Your impact on our lives cannot be measured, and your legacy will continue to live on in our hearts. May your soul find eternal peace, and may your memory bring us comfort and inspiration as we navigate the journey of life without you. Rest well, dear Maria – you will be loved and cherished for all eternity.

Visitation and rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 2-6pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel in Pittsburg (rosary at 4pm). Funeral liturgy (Mass) will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 10am at St. Peter Martyr Church in Pittsburg, CA. Burial following at Oak View Memorial Park in Antioch.
