Obituary

Mary "Nana Mary" Sanchez went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2021, at the age of 93. Mary was born in Bryan, Texas to Leonarda (Prado) and Doratao (Mireles) on July 22, 1927. As a child she enjoyed spending time with her siblings, and she loved to dance!

Mary met the love of her life, Salvador Sanchez, in Tulare, Ca. They married in Reno, Nevada and moved to Pittsburg, Ca. Mary gave birth to 6 beautiful children: Frances, Linda, Sal Jr, Rosemary, Joseph, and Mary Lou.

Mary excelled as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She always kept a clean house and cooked delicious meals. All were welcome!!

In addition to being a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Mary enjoyed fishing, camping and road trips to visit family down south in Tulare. When her sons were in high school, Mary never missed a football, or wrestling match.  She would bring plenty of extra homemade burritos for all the players.  Her love of sports continued as she cheered on her grandchildren at a variety of sporting events. She was a fan of the Bay Area local teams and would watch the games on TV. The 49ers and the Oakland A's being her favorite teams to root for! She also loved playing (especially winning!) Bingo, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering Faith in God. She shared her deep love and belief in the Lord with her children and taught many of her grandchildren the Lord's Prayer and always prayed with them before meals and at bedtime.  She shared her strong conviction that prayer helps you to grow closer to God and bring peace into your life.

Mary is reunited in Heaven with her mom, Leonarda, her husband Sal, her 2 children Sal Jr., and Rosemary, her 2 grandchildren Rochelle and Salvador among many, many others.

She is survived by her 4 children: Frances, Linda, Joseph (Christine), and Mary Lou (Marc), 11 grandchildren Yvette, Billy, Tiffany, Paula, JJ, Aaron, Sophia, Joaquin, JR, Michelle and Michael, host of great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Mary will always be the beloved and cherished matriarch of this family. She will live on through our shared memories and stories. Mary will always be known for her fierce love of family, her kind nature, loving heart, and deep Faith in Christ.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 9:30am 11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy at St. Ignatius of Antioch at 12:00pm. Committal services to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch.
