Mattie Mae Gaines-West, born in Lewisville Arkansas on August 20, 1929 to Johnny &; Gussie Gibson Moore. Six Siblings; Johnny B "Kine", Minnie Ola, Willie Mae, John Henry, Roosevelt & Gladys Ray.

Married Carl Gaines Jr May 22, 1944 in Arkansas and later divorced. Met Curtis West in1955 later married him January 19, 1974 in Nevada with a total union of 54 years until death.

During her life, Mattie mothered ten children, six sons; John Henry (deceased at birth), Frederick Sr. "Freddy", Carl III "Goo", Marvin Sr., Richard Sr., Curtis Jr (deceased at birth). Four daughters; Mary "Chiney", Yvonne, Mallory "Mel" & Rose Mary "Rosie". Mattie continued to show her love for her family by raising eight more grandchildren; Marvin Jr, Glenda, Patricia "Tweedy", Latoya, Richard Jr. "Ricky", Tiffany, Venae, & Mattia.

Mattie was a strong-willed woman who kept the family together and left her children a legacy of love and respect. Her home was a revolving door for friends and family which caused the community to look at her as a Mom or Grandma. Mattie's character was fearless, passionate, and alert with each generation.

After raising all her children, Mattie went back to school to focus on her own education and career. She enrolled in San Jose State University and received her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development.

In her social life she enjoyed family functions, family talent shows, games, and Friday night's fish fry's. Her choice of games was cards, dominos, and fishing, joy riding around town, and sitting at the Bay. She was admired by many.

Mattie was a born-again Christian. During her last days on earth the joy of the Lord was truly her strength.

She departed this life on July 12, 2019 and was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Gussie Moore, Husband; Curtis West, Children; John Henry, Carl Sr. "Goo", Marvin Sr., Curtis Jr., Mallory "Mel", Grandchild; Frederick Jr. "Chico" Siblings; Johnny B, Minnie Ola, Willie Mae, John Henry, & Roosevelt.

She leaves to cherish two sons; Frederick Sr. "Freddy" and Richard Sr. of CA. Three daughters Mary "Chiney", Rose Mary (Rosie) of CA, Yvonne of IN, and one sister Gladys Ray of AR.  In her departure she leaves A host of Grandchildren, Great Grand, and Great- Great Grandchildren. as well as a host of relatives and friend

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10:00am with a funeral service at 11:00am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Burial services following at Oak View Memorial Park in Antioch.
