Our loving Father Mel went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 Born in Brentwood, CA to Jose and Josephine Berumen and grew up with his 6 brothers and 2 sisters.  Mel Graduated from Liberty Union High School and then served in the Korean War with the Army. When he returned from Japan, he married the love of his life, his best friend Helen (Nena) Berumen on January 22, 1955, celebrating 65 years of marriage.

Mel worked at for Sears driving the delivery truck for years before retiring there and then worked at Comcast for several years before fully retiring.

Mel along with his beautiful wife Nena cherished their children, family and friends; and they always welcomed all into their home with open arms. He loved the SF Giants and 49ers and would love to host parties as we cheered them on!  Mel enjoyed parties, loved traveling, family camping trips and of course their gambling trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe, singing and most of all dancing, with the love of his life and his daughters. He loved anything and everything the grandchildren participated in, sports, cheerleading, music; he was there cheering them on.  He was our biggest fan, always rooting us on and was always there for his family.  And watch out if the ump at the Baseball/softball field made a bad call ~ Mel sure let them know it!  His greatest gift to us was unfailing love, devotion and gentleness towards all who knew him.  He was a true Gentleman, and his love was overflowing!!

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Nena who passed away exactly 6 months prior to his passing.  His daughter Rosemary Gargalikis in 1991 who now is dancing with Dad in heaven, His parents Jose and Josephine, his brothers Manuel, Sal, Frank Berumen and sister Carmen Novero and several brothers and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.

Mel survived by his devoted daughters Deborah (Brian) Sweeney, Melissa Berumen,  and son-in-law, Lennie Gargalikis, the loves of his life his grandchildren, Brian (Cindy) Sweeney, Jennifer (Ray) Cardinalli, Lennette, Nicolette and Jaime Gargalikis, Nick and Joe Ternes.  Great grandchildren, Ashley (Frank) Gargalikis, Madisyn, Kristopher and Keeley Leffle, Caleb Valdez, Gianna and Jaimme Crespo, Isaac and Ella Ternes, Brian and Anthony Cardinalli, Laylah Sweeney, Nina and Mario Magana.  Great-great grandchildren Ella Brossard and Valorie Gargalikis, sister Mary Berumen, Brothers Tony, Jess, and Angelo and aunt Mary Heredia. He also survived many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Friday, February 19, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel with a private burial immediately following.  We will have a celebration of life luncheon later when COVID restrictions are lifted.
