Melody Tyree left this world on May 29, 2026.  She was found by her son, Anthony, sleeping peacefully in her bed.  It was a huge surprise for her family and all of her friends.

Melody was born on July 18, 1963 in Lodi, California to Willma Horner Tyree and G.W. Tyree.  Her father left when she was just a toddler.  She was an only child, but her mother had children from a previous husband before he passed away.  They were Carol Horner Hosmer, Helen Horner, Peggy Horner Kline and Larry Horner.  Only Carol and Peggy are left.

Melody was only 6 years old when her mother passed.  She and her brother were taken in by her sister, Carol and her family.  She grew up with Dawn, Robert and Stephen W. Hosmer.  Larry Horner was there for about 4 years before he went to the Navy.

She went to school at Los Medanos Elementary, Hillview Jr High and Pittsburg High.  She loved going to school and learning.  She continued learning for the rest of her life.  She also loved animals of any kind.  On vacations, if the city had a zoo, she always wanted to go there.  The last zoo she saw was Philadelphia as that was the first zoo in the United States.  That trip was just in April.  Her and Carol traveled together for many years, going to zoos and Giants games.  They only had 4 more to go to see all the baseball stadiums.

The most important thing in her life was when she gave birth to a son and named him Anthony.  The two of them spent years doing everything together.  She made sure to go to all school programs.  They loved Disneyland and just being there for each other. She was so proud of him when he graduated from Pittsburg High School.  He will miss her.

She worked at several banks when she was younger but when she went to work for Pittsburg Schools she found her love.  She enjoyed being a substitute at the beginning, but found her place at Pittsburg Adult Education Center, where she was often the very first face students saw when they walked through the doors.  Her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine kindness made every student feel valued and at home.

Melody also made time for her coworkers.  She had a unique ability to brighten a room with a conversation, a laugh, or a thoughtful word of encouragement.  Her kindness touched whoever she worked with.  Her presence made our school community stronger and more welcoming.

Melody's generous heart, caring spirit and unwavering support of others will never be forgotten.  Her legacy lives on in the countless family members, students, coworkers and friends whose lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love, gratitude and admiration.

Melody's  Memorial  Service will be held on Saturday, July 18 at the Pittsburg Elks Lodge, 200 Marina Blvd in Pittsburg.  The service will be at 11:00.  After the service, lunch will be served in the same room by Las Panchitas as Mexican Food was Melody's very  favorite.
