Obituary

Mercedes Alcantara Camcam, 96 years of age passed away peacefully at her home in Pittsburg, CA on March 10th, 2023 surrounded by the ones who loved & cared for her. She was born in Pangasinan, Philippines the eldest of 9 children, preceded in death are her parents Apollonio Alcantara, & Emilia Cayabyab Alcantara of Pangasinan, Philippines. She met her husband Paul Jose Camcam when she was17 and courted her for two months when they married and moved to the United States. They were married for over 40+ years until his passing in April of 1994.

Mercedes worked at the Western Canary in Antioch & Lodi, CA & the See's Candy in South San Francisco as a floor lady for over 30 years. She was actively involved at the Pittsburg Senior Center & the Fifty Plus Club as a volunteer for many years. Mercy & her husband were legacy members of the Fil-American Association of Pittsburg, CA as well as many Filipino Associations in the Bay Area.

Mercedes is survived by her sisters, Flora (Jose)Abug & Rufina (Celso) of the Philippines & her five stepchildren, Doreen Ludwig of Alameda, Carlito Camcam of  Las Vegas, Leonie (Donald) Solomon of San Leandro, Julie Chin of Hayward & Romeo (Olivia) Camcam of Alameda. 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 23 great- great grandchildren. She is preceded in death are her brothers Betong, Roberto & her sisters Virginia, Rosa, Aurelia, & Demetria all from the Philippines & her eldest step daughter Elisa Rubio of Southern California.

Mercedes was a very independent woman who loved to dance, exercise & play bingo. Her positive attitude & her perfect demeanor made everyone smile. During her last days, she fought to be very independent and made sure her appearance was always perfect. She will be missed tremendously & will be forever in our hearts.
