Obituary

Michael Allen Hess was born on May 5, 1966 in Concord, California and died on Sunday August 22, 2021. Michael touched many lives with his gentle, caring, and loving soul. Michael had the patience of a thousand Angels and if you met him, you immediately had a friend. He was also an incredibly funny and jovial man.
Michael grew up in Martinez, California. The mecca for awesome games of chase, stick ball, whiffle ball and ghost. During that time there were hundreds of kids in the neighborhood and Michael and his adoring younger brother Troy, were always together playing until the streetlights came on, or until we heard Mom's friendly voice summoning us home for dinner. Thank you to the neighborhood for giving Michael so many great memories.
Michael graduated from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill in 1984. At College Park, Michael was an exceptional Baseball Player and a great friend to all who knew him. After high school Michael dabbled in the recycling industry, pest control, home construction and maintenance, he would also marry Dawna Martin and start his family. In the late 80's and 90's Michael worked at the Martinez refinery under subcontractor Dillingham Construction. After a 13-year career at the refinery, Michael moved on to become a Maintenance Technician for the Liberty Union School District. It was at this time that Michael would go on to marry Dynese Mouzakis and have two wonderful children, Cevastiana and Gage. Shortly after marrying Dynese, Michael retired so he could stay home and take care of their two small children. Yet another example of Michael's loving and altruistic nature; always thinking of others before himself. Michael also had a brilliant mind for stats and could recite by memory any stat from any baseball or football player of any era. Earning himself the nickname, "Rainman." In his free time Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as his parents, Mike and Cathie Hess, collecting baseball cards, writing poetry and songs. He was an avid record collector and enjoyed all musical genres, He was a loyal, lifelong Raiders fan and a founding member of the Raider Nation. Michael loved and adored his family and enjoyed every single moment of their time together. Michael also had the gift of gab and was known to be able to sell ice to an Inuit native. On top of all of that, Michael enjoyed movies and television. He grew up on Creature features and Twilight Zone. He loved horror movies, and anything written by Stephen King.
Michael is survived by his wife Dynese and their two children, Cevastiana and Gage, as well as his former wife Dawna and their three children, Kyle, Macayla (Patrick) and Connor. Michael is also survived by his loving and devoted parents, Mike and Cathie Hess, adoring brother Troy (Carmela) Hess, as well as his loving Niece Alison and Nephew Nathan Hess and Grandmother Dorothy Slupe. Michael also has a multitude of loving Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who will miss him very much. Pre-deceasing Michael are his loving grandparents Myron and Violet Hess, Grandfather Raymond Slupe, Aunt Lori, and Aunt Patty.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Nurses and Doctors at JMMC ICU, Concord campus, especially Nell.
