Miguel (Mike) Hurtado passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following a lengthy decline in health. Born in Trona, CA, he was the son of the late Jesus and Matilde Hurtado who moved their family to Pittsburg, CA, when he was 9 years old. He often talked about his time as a young boy spent playing sports at the Pittsburg Boys Club. With great pride, he spent his formidable years in Pittsburg, graduating Pittsburg High School Class of 1955, where he made lifelong friendships. Well into their 80s, Mike kept in touch and scheduled monthly lunches with a large group of his classmates.
Mike spent most of his working years at Pepsi Cola in Pittsburg, retiring as a District Manager. He enjoyed his job and the special group of people he worked with. All of them stayed close for years after retirement. As important to him were the relationships he made with his customers, many also becoming lifelong friends and giving him the nickname "Mr. Pepsi". Mike loved football. While in high school, Mike played quarterback and helped the Pirates to a county championship in 1954. He took on the mantra of "Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate" becoming part of the Citizens Football Committee supporting high school events and ways to improve the existing programs. In the 1970s he was instrumental in starting the Pittsburg Junior Football League with a small group of dedicated friends and family. He served as President of the League and coached a team where he is often remembered as "Coach Mike". Mostly from what he would do off the field to let the boys know he
truly cared about them. He also served on the Hall of Fame Committee and in 2004 was named to the
PHS Hall of Fame as a Contributor.

Most important to Mike was his family. In 1975, he married his wife of 51 years, Sally Baglietto and in 1980 their son, Michael John was born. Mike was a devoted father and so proud of his four grandchildren. They were the lights of his life. He always looked forward to spending time with them and attending their sports events. When he wasn't able to attend, he watched them on GameChanger. Besides Dad and Papa, Mike was "Uncle Mike" to the Hurtado family which was also a driving force in his life. Countless nieces, nephews, extended family additions and even friends treated like part of the family, know how much time he spent trying to make sure everyone was taken care of and included. He wouldn't hesitate to run out of the house in a moment's notice to be there for someone that needed something, no matter how big or small. Saturday 6am doughnut calls. silver dollars/big money and other stories that will last forever.

Mike is survived by his wife Sally; son, Michael John (Audrey) Hurtado; grandchildren, Rashelle Marie, Michael Evan, Brandon Anthony, Chase Giovanni; siblings and spouses Jess Hurtado, Lydia Rodella, Lupe (Ralph) Rangel, Frank (Jackie) Hurtado, Joe (Norma) Hurtado and Ellen/Nena Morrice. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Matilde Hurtado; in-laws John and Florence Baglietto; siblings and spouses, Rachel (Pete) Martin, Mary (Jake) Perez, Alice (Joe) Tiscareno, Al Hurtado, Yvonne Hurtado and Alex Rodella. To know Mike was to love him and he will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
