Michael James Mattson was born in Concord to Roy and Pauline Mattson, and was raised in Port Chicago, CA. He graduated from Pacifica High School in West Pittsburg in 1964. He attended Utah State University on a football scholarship for 3 years; and married his life-long admiree, Arleen Lazzarini in 1967.
Mike started his career in the Carpenters Union at the young age of 14 working as a carpenter's apprentice. He remained a member of the Carpenters Union even after retiring from Charles Pankow, Inc. in 2002.
Mike is survived by his wife, Arleen Mattson; son Brian (Michelle) Mattson of Santa Cruz; daughter Mileen (Eric) Langley of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren Victoria Langley, Brianne Langley and Iris Langley; brother Don Mattson; sister Velda Mattson and brother Bill (Diane) Mattson.
