Michael Alan Pollock of Oakley, CA, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2023, surrounded with love and the comfortable creative life he had built. He was 63.5 years old.
Born June 1st, in San Bernadino, CA to Joan and James Martin Pollock. Mike is survived by his wife, of 17 years, Julie (Imber) Bisch-Pollock, her daughters, Korin (James)Wilkerson + Grandson Barry of SC, and Mallory Bisch of Oakley CA. He is also survived by his children Daniel Pollock (wife Rebecca) of Concord CA and Amelia Pollock of Kiyoto, Japan, and siblings, Steven Pollock (spouse Zena) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Susan (spouse Walter Lynch) of Rocklin CA.
Educated at St. Mary's College of Moraga, CA, with BA, Michael was contemplating the life of a teaching Christian Brother, but after graduation and before taking the vows- he joined the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper and TOW Missile Gunner. After 4 years of active service, he joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Repair mechanic. He was a veteran of the Cold War and Operation Desert Storm.
In the 2000's Mike finished certification as a Master Scuba Diver, where he dove the California Coast and exotic tropical locations. Always with an eye towards environmentalism, he participated in coastal underwater cleanups and Fish Counts.
Master Gardener ('04) as well as member of the local garden club "Delta Informal Gardeners".
His home, where he and his wife practiced permaculture, was designated as a wildlife and Audobon Bird Sanctuary. He loved bringing his baked creations to the meetings and get togethers.
Besides gardening and baking Michael always had a creative bent, and was also a textile, and Stained-Glass artist. He was also quite the prolific writer of adventure stories as many notebooks could attest.
His was a life well-lived. His kind presence and gentle nature will be sorely missed. Private Family Celebration of Life was held December15th, 2023.
