Nancy Jane
Caldwell
Jul 5, 1935 — Oct 3, 2023
Nancy Jane (Mills) Caldwell, 88, of Pittsburg, California, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, with family at her side. Nancy was born on July 5, 1935, in Iron River, Wisconsin, to parents Donald Otis Mills and Jane Elizabeth (Russell) Mills. As a child, she lived in various towns throughout Wisconsin until 1948, when her parents and four siblings moved to Kirkland, Washington, and, later, Seattle. After graduating from Lincoln High School (Seattle) in 1953, she worked for the Washington State Fisheries Department. She formed many lifelong friendships at work, including one friend who introduced her through a blind date to the forever love of her life, Dean Matthew Caldwell. They married on March 4, 1955, and raised four children, for whom Nancy was a stay-at-home Mom in Alderwood Manor and Bothell. In 1971, the family relocated to California, purchasing a home in Pittsburg, where Nancy lived for over fifty years. Her children were her pride and joy, and she strongly encouraged them to follow their dreams, providing amazing support along the way. Family and friends were very important to her, and she maintained many positive lifelong friendships, including with friends of her children, providing the same type of encouragement she shared with her own children.
Nancy was a huge sports fan, rooting for all local Bay Area professional and college teams, with the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Golden State Warriors at the top of the list. She attended many games each year with her daughter, Deena and son, Tom, along with many family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean (1986) and son, Thomas (2021); parents, Donald Mills and Jane Russell; brother, David R. Mills; and sisters Marian Rivers, Melissa Hall, and Marla Ladd; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Carol Caldwell; her nephew, David W. Mills and niece, Brit Rivers-Rulman. She is survived by her children, Deena Caldwell of Pittsburg, Timothy (Madison) Curry of Red Hook, New York, and Michael (Paulette) Caldwell of Los Angeles, California; grandson, Jacob Caldwell of Troy, Michigan; brother, Jonathan (Lucille) Mills of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; and brothers-in-law, Jim Rivers of Mount Vernon, Washington, and Fred (Venita) Caldwell of Brookings, Oregon; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews.
Her earthly remains will be inurned at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Concord, California, next to her beloved husband. Per Nancy's request, there will be no services. The family requests that donations in her honor be made to the Junior Giants organization through the San Francisco Giants Community Fund at https://giantscommunityfund.givingfuel.com/giants-community-fund-donation-page
