Nick passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday morning at the age of 104.
Born and raised in Pittsburg Nick graduated from Pittsburg High School and continued to help out in his families grocery store. He was a gifted mechanic who was able to fix almost any type of engine. He was able to take those early talents and developed into a highly skilled airplane mechanic. With the approach of war his skills were in great demand and so began a long career as an airplane mechanic at McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento. He served in that role throughout WWII, Korea and beyond finally retiring from federal service after 30 years.
Never married he cared for his parents until their deaths and remained in the family home in downtown Pittsburg until his nineties.
He is survived by nephews; Leonard (Thelma) of Brentwood, Joseph (Laura) of Pittsburg and Richard of Oakland and niece Jane Cooley of Gilbert, Arizona and by many grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; Leonard and Carmela Canciamilla and brothers Joseph and Monte all of Pittsburg.
The family acknowledges the help and support of his dear caregiver Francine along with her entire board and care staff who cared for him until the end.
Visitation will be Held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00am with a chapel blessing 1:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Committal services at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite charity.
