Nora Rose
Ferrante
Jun 5, 1919 — Apr 21, 2021
Pittsburg
Nora Rose Ferrante (DiMaggio) passed away peacefully with her family at her side Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Nora was born in Pittsburg, where she remained a lifelong devout resident. As a child, Nora was an avid reader and was lovingly known amongst her siblings as "Nootsie." She grew up working in Pittsburg and Monterey canneries until she met and married her husband, Joe. Together, Nora and Joe operated Pittsburg's local Ferrante Market at the corner of West 7th and Cutter Streets. Nora balanced her work as a business owner with the fulfillment of homemaking and raising her children, Frances and Joe Jr.
Nora loved being out and about, and participated in many clubs and groups. She was known for her giving spirit: from Good Shepherd Church, where she volunteered, to the Young Ladies' Institute and the Catholic Daughters organizations. She was the sharpest shooter at the Bocce Ball Court, enjoyed playing at local Bingo halls with friends, and occasionally indulged in overnight casino trips.
Nora's family was her pride and joy. You could always count on vast array of delicious Italian cookies – especially Cuccidati – and Sicilian pizzas she would make. She would frequently entertain her extended family for Sunday dinner and card games. Always present for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Nora never missed an opportunity to attend family events like recitals, performances, sports games, tournaments, birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She also shared her hobbies of playing cards and building jigsaw puzzles, and checkers with her family.
Nora is survived by her son Joe (Caterina); son-in-law Jim; grandchildren Noreen, Jimmy (Victoria), Giuliana, Teresa, and Giovanni; great-grandchildren Deanne, Holden, Camrin Eve, Cameron Charles, Reagan, and Mike; and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. She joins her husband Joe; daughter Frances; parents Annie and Frank; siblings Jenny, Sara, Marie, and Joe; grandson-in-law John; and many beloved family members in eternal life. She will fondly be remembered by friends and family alike for her strength, determination, and love.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Maria, Erica "Alma", Rosie, Livier, Jackie, and Jasmine, for their devotion to and care for Nora.
Those wishing to say goodbye to Nora are welcome to a viewing on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy following at Church of the Good Shepherd at 12:00pm. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of St. Mary Margaret 1450 of Pittsburg.
