Norma Lea Schaefer, 93, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. Born on June 24, 1932, in Coffey County, Kansas, to Arthur Raymond Evans and Gladys Adda Rohr. She was one of 10 children. Norma was known from the very beginning for her thoughtful heart, loving nature, and a signature "spunky" personality that brightened every room she entered.

For over 35 years, Norma was a familiar and beloved face behind the wheel as a school bus driver for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. She took great pride in safely guiding generations of children, a career that perfectly blended her sense of responsibility with her adventurous spirit.

A woman of deep faith and creative flair, Norma was a devoted member of both Open Bible Church and Calvary Temple. Her hands were rarely still; she expressed her artistic soul through sewing, crocheting, and home design. She had a keen eye for beauty, often found hunting for treasures at antique shops or enjoying a day of shopping. Her generosity was just as vast as her talents, as she was a dedicated supporter of various charities, with a particularly soft spot for the Veterans Administration (VA).

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Steven David Willis; her youngest son, Donald Lloyd Willis; and her granddaughter, Amy Willis.

She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and is survived by her sisters Marilyn Varney, Colleen Prickett and her loving daughter, Karen Horner. She was the proud grandmother of nine: Kimberly Willis Thompson, Ben Cipollina, George Willis, Tony Horner, Steven Willis Jr., Brandi Glasper, and Donnie Willis Jr.  and Tammy Willis. Her spark continues to live on through her many cherished great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as adored nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Norma will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, her faith, and the joy she brought to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she brightened. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery on Friday April 17, 2026 at 10:00 am. Celebration of life to follow. Venue TBD
