Raymond Anthony Avalos, 69, passed away on August 9, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. He was born to parents Tony and Esther Avalos on May 23, 1953 in Richmond, CA. Raymond graduated from Richmond High School and went on to have a career as a plumber until his retirement in 2018.

Raymond was known as a kind, loving and generous man who loved to laugh. He and his wife Kelly often opened their home for loved ones for any amount of time and it was this open house policy that coined him the nickname "Papa Ray". Raymond's personality and kindness was contagious. He loved to talk sports and listen to music with anyone willing. His recent passion included watching his grandchildren play sports. It brings his family great peace knowing he's now reunited with his son Derek Avalos to whom he loved and adored.

He is survived by loved ones Kelly Avalos (wife), Kevin Avalos (son) and spouse Lauren Avalos, Rochelle Laton (daughter) and spouse Andy Laton, Jessica Lavatai (daughter) and spouse Drake Lavatai, Esther and Tony Avalos (parents), Patty Mahoney and Sue Delgado (siblings) as well as a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Raymond is preceded by his son Derek Avalos.

A memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 1:00pm at the UA local 159 Assembly Hall, 1308 Roman Way Martinez, CA. This event will be casual and the family requests that you wear your favorite music or sports apparel as we honor the life of "Papa Ray".
