Ray Massey passed away on his 73rd birthday after a lengthy illness with his family by his side. Ray touched so many lives with his gentle, loving spirit and wonderful sense of humor.
Ray was born in Bisbee, AZ and was a resident of Foresthill, CA in his early years and graduated from Placer Union High School. Ray went on to become a forest firefighter with the California Division of Forestry in Foresthill, CA. He then joined the U.S. Army in the Corps of Engineers and became an armored vehicle-launched bridge operator stationed in Dexheim, Germany. After leaving the service, Ray became a certified welder and enjoyed a lengthy welding career with various Bay Area refineries, construction companies, as well as independently.
Ray was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, dirt bike riding, and photography.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lee Ann; son Sean Massey (Tracey); daughter Tiffany DeWall (Kevin), and granddaughters Alyssa Baham and Shea Massey. He is also survived by sisters Ola Faye Schroeder and Jennie Richardson; brother John Massey; mother-in-law Elizabeth Brajkovich; brother-in-law Frank Brajkovich (Trina) and many nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held Friday, October 16, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Foresthill, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
