Redempto Penales Macoy passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024 at around 10:45 A.M. at Kaiser Hospital, Walnut Creek , California.

He was born in Dumanjug, Cebu, Philippines on May 12, 1947 to Restituto Algoso Macoy and Rufina Clavano Penales (who hailed from Dauis, Bohol).  The eldest of ten (10) children, his proud parents named him Redempto Agelio and was baptized in the St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Dumanjug.

Redempto or Red, as he is fondly called by family and friends, took pride of his father who was a WWII veteran and "Death March" survivor, and his mother who was a 2nd Grade teacher in a public school. His parents, who are both public servants, inculcated the value of righteousness, honesty, hard work, and respect for others.  He completed his elementary years at the Dumanjug Central School, and after graduating from the Little Flower Catholic High School, he went to the City of Cebu to pursue college education and obtained a Bachelor's degree, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, from the Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos (now a University).  He went to work at the then Lahug Domestic Airport, Cebu City.  Eventually, he was transferred to Cagayan de Oro City Airport as air traffic controller where he met the love of his life, Nida Cabarrubias, and the two were married on August 3,1973.  Red and Nida raised three beautiful children:  Temistocles, Elbert, and Millicent.

On 1996 Red and family moved to the United States through the sponsorship of his father who became a US Citizen.  Leaving a stable and promising job in the Philippines was not easy.  Trying to establish a new life in America was even more difficult.  With the support from his siblings who came before him, and through hard work, patience and perseverance, Red was able to adjust to the life in the American dream.  He started working as Gasoline cashier in Los Angeles.  Later on, Red and Nida settled in the Bay Area where he worked as machine operator until he retired on 2012.  Red was proud of his children who are all successful in their respective career.

Red may not be a regular church-goer, but he had a very strong faith and was prayerful.  He had a positive attitude towards life and his relationship with others was based on "The Golden Rule".   He was a responsible person, dedicated husband, loving father, doting grandfather, a caring and thoughtful brother, and a very good friend who also had a good sense of humor.  His last words to his family were "I love you all.  Tell everyone that I love them all."

Red was preceded in death by his father Restituto, mother Rufina, and younger brother Raoul.  He is survived by his wife Nida; children:  Temistocles (spouse Yolse), Elbert (spouse Edna), Millicent (spouse Tony); grandchildren: Mekelly, TJ, AJ, TY, Metsly, Ivanna, Mia, Ella, Patrick, Gio; his siblings:  Reveriano, Rhodora, Rowena (spouse Demetrio );  Rainero (spouse Edith); Resfina; Ruby (spouse David); Randolph (spouse Emma n); and Ray Mario (spouse Anne);  uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws.  He will be dearly missed by his family, relatives, and friends.

Visitation is on January 2, 2025,  from 2:00pm to 6:00pm with Rosary at 3:00pm and Vigil Service at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. The Mass of the Resurrection is on January 3, 2025 at 10:30am at Church of the Good Shepherd.
