Rico Fonzi died peacefully in the early morning of February 24th, of natural causes. He was a proud lifetime resident of Pittsburg. Rico attended Pittsburg High School where he was a three letter athelete on their championship football, basketball and baseball teams. Upon graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the US Army where he served as an MP in Berlin. Rico worked for Shell Oil for more than 30 years where he retired as a Pipefitter. He was respected by his coworkers for his skill and work ethic. He was an active member of the Shell Oil Alumni Association long after his retirement. He enjoyed his retirement years spending time traveling with Beverly his beloved wife of 64 years. He loved holding court at family functions and was always a presence at his grandchildren's activities. He had a great story to share no matter the occasion. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and tinkering in the garage and relished time with his long time friends telling tales of old and new Pittsburg.
In addition to his wife Beverly, he is survived by his children Barney, Gary (Patty), Barbara (Doug) Brooker, grandchildren Danny, Lizzy, Adam and Natalie, Brother Sam and eight nieces and nephews.
Although he has moved on to his next journey he will never be forgotten by his family and friends. We will always be filled with the great memories, laughs and his wonderful wisdom.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 4:00pm with a vigil at 6:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch.
Rico had a soft spot in his heart for those in need. With that in mind, donations to St Anthony's Foundation, PO Box 39000, San Francisco 94139 or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
