Robert Hugh Bell, age 79, departed this life on August 29, 2014 at Diamond Ridge Healthcare Center in Pittsburg, CA. He was born August 30, 1934 in Todd County, KY and preceded in death by his father, Walter Bell, Sr. and mother Fannie Mae (Wells) Bell. He was a graduate of Knob City High School, and was heavily involved in military history and mathematics. Robert retired from the U.S. Navy in 1973 after 20 years of faithful service aboard numerous aircraft carriers as a weapons ordinance technician. His second career was at Lockheed Martin, Space Systems Company in Sunnyvale, California where he served in the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program from which he retired. He was a member of the South Bay Community Church in Fremont. Robert's devotion to others was evident as he also served Harvester's Prison ministries at San Quentin State Prison and Alameda County Jail. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Bell, his two children: Robert Bell Jr. (Andrea) and Trevor Bell, all of Fresno. He is also survived by brothers: Walter Bell, Jr. of Clarksville, TN and James H.(Mary Ann) Bell of Russellville, KY. He also has five grandchildren and special friend, Ali Hasan of San Jose and a host of family and friends. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00am at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, officiated by Bishop James H. Bell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
