Bob passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife Gloria by his side. Born in Modesto, CA. to Robert S. and Marguerite Soderbery. He graduated from Fresno State, with a B.A. Degree.  He began his journey in public service as Parks and Rec. Director for the City of Delano, CA.  He then was hired by the City of Pittsburg in 1971 as the Public Services Director until he retired in 1998. He went on to be a Consultant for the City of Marysville, CA. and then Interim Dir. of Public Works for City of Redondo Beach, CA.

Bob always exhibited HONESTY, INTEGRITY, RESPECT and TRUST. Bob will be remembered for the legacies he leaves as monuments to the City of Pittsburg.  The development and renewal of the many parks and facilities such as, Marina/Harbor, Golf Course upgrade to 18 holes and restaurant, Environmental Center, Marina Center, Neighborhood Center, City Park and Little League fields upgrade, Buchanan Park and Pool, Bocce Building and Courts, Marina, Hillsdale and Highlands Parks, and beautification thru flowers.

Bob's biggest joy was Small World Park. While standing on a large vacant parcel on Harbor St., you had a vision of a special park for young children. Thus began his quest for support from Pittsburg's local service clubs and other donations, Small World Park became what you see today.  He cared enough to build for the Soroptimist Party Castle "The Knights Round Table with a Kings chair and benches. He cared enough to create The Shared Savings Program which benefited the employee and the City. Bob received the Helen Putnam Award and Ford Foundation Program Award.  Received top honors for Innovations in Local and State Government Programs and was recognized by the California Taxpayers Assoc.  This is the short list of his many projects throughout City.

Bob was a remarkable man who shared his knowledge, experience and skills to enhance the City and his employees.

Bob and Gloria enjoyed traveling and began their adventures to Australia, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, China, Italy, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Spain, and across the USA.  Boating was next, starting with a cruise boat berthed in Marina Del Rey then Pittsburg.  Sailing was next, berthing in Sausalito then moving to Pittsburg.  RVing was next and the last adventure. Taking trips with friends and traveling to Arizona and surrounding places.

He loved building furniture, cradles for the grandbabies, remodeling of friends and families' homes and always available to lend a hand. Bob and Gloria's home showcases his great work.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jane Pfetzer and Tom Pfetzer. Survived by his loving wife Gloria, Son Rob (Julia); Grandchildren;  Will, Julia and Brooke Soderbery from Atherton, Ca., step family John Blakley, James Blakley (April), Grandchildren; John Skeeter (Clarisa)Billeci Blakley, Nicholas (Stefanie)Blakley, James V. and Charlotte Blakley, Great Grandchildren, Madison and Cianna Billeci Blakley, AJ and Nick Blakley.  Nephew Mark (Jo) Pfetzer, Nieces Teresa (Mike) Ketron, Susan Pfetzer.  Great Nephews Joe (Emily) Ketron, and Ben Ketron.

Bob will be truly missed by all the lives he touched thru his unselfish giving ways. He was a true gentleman.
