Roberto Mariano Pombo passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 16th, 2024, after a hard two year fight with cancer. He touched many lives with his generous giving attitude and positive outlook on life.
Roberto was born and raised in Manhattan, New York and graduated from George Washington High School. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force 1965-1969 he obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing from SUNY Buffalo in 1976. He moved to the S.F. Bay Area in 1978 with his loving wife, Rosemary. He enjoyed a 40 year career as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse before retiring from Alameda County in 2017. Roberto had a love for running and ran many marathons in his life. He loved his Pittsburg Pirates and coached pole vaulting from 1998-2015 touching many young athletes lives at Pittsburg High School. Roberto loved baseball and his Oakland A's. He had a love for Jazz and Latin music, loved watching old western movies, bird watching and his turtle Oscar and tortoise Ivan. He was a lover of Volkswagens and owned several in his lifetime and could be found driving across country with his loving wife in his van or taking his children to sporting events. In his son's youth he loved helping with Boy Scout Troop 89 adventures including doing medical aid for their annual hiking and biking trips also teaching the scouts CPR.
Roberto's pride and joy were his loving wife of 44 years Rosemary, being a father to his three children, his granddaughter and grandsons who he loved dearly.
Roberto is survived by his loving devoted wife of 44 years Rosemary Leta; devoted Children Francisco Leta-Pombo of Pittsburg, Deya Williamson (Eric) of Brentwood, Halley Leta-Pombo Duarte (David) of Antioch; Granddaughter Amaya Leta-Pombo of Antioch, and Grandsons Gabriel Stanford of Tupelo, Mississippi and Benjamin Hetrick of Arizona. He will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed by all until we meet again.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 2:00 to 6:00pm with a funeral service at 4:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
