Rocco Battaglia passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his family on Monday. Rocco was born in Capaci, Sicily and served in the Kings Army in Italy during WWII. He came to the U.S. and settled in Pittsburg where he met his wife of 69 years, Josephine. They owned several businesses in Contra Costa County. They were very involved in bringing Bocce to the Pittsburg-Antioch area. Also, to the Peppermill, which recently held its 31st annual tournament. Dad loved being an ambassador for the sport of Bocce. Especially by introducing the game to the younger generations. He was proud of his involvement with the Pittsburg-Isola delle Femmine sister city group.
Rocco is survived by his children Marie, Speranza, Donna, and Frank and his 8 grandchildren, Kenny, LeaAnn, Frank Jr., Jennifer, Joey, Bryan, Sara and Paige, and his 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Domenica, Rosaria, and Caterina. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine, who passed away in 2012. His biggest passion was to bring his family and friends together to celebrate any occasion or no occasion at all.
