Rose Marie Cavallaro passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born in Merced Falls, California to the late Juan and Minnie Quaglia. Rose moved to Pittsburg in the 1940's where she met and married her husband of 33 years, the late Sal N. Cavallaro, and they had two daughters, Jennie and Josephine. She
was also the longtime companion of William Milano.
Rose worked at the Steelworkers Union Local #1440 for 40 years, moving her way up from secretary to Union Treasurer. Her position at the Union enabled her to delve into the political arena where she used her influence to campaign for local, state, and federal legislators. She served as president of the Sheriff's Ladies Volunteer Organization and she was appointed to the Contra Costa County Grand Jury. She also was a member of the Executive Board of the Central Labor Council, in addition to her involvement with numerous other civic and charitable causes. She was a tough-minded advocate for the less fortunate. Fluent in Spanish, she was able to be of service to many people in Pittsburg's Latino community. Her lively personality, generous spirit, and strong work ethic drew to her a wide circle of friends spanning business people, politicians, and blue collar workers.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Jennie Marty; son-in-law, Hal Marty; granddaughter, Maria Marty, all of Lafayette; bonus grandchildren, Amy Gray, Jason, Eric, and Clint Marty. She is also survived by sisters, Lillian Padilla, Gloria Quaglia, and Sally Blake; brothers, John and Robert Quaglia, and Anthony Galan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Josephine Cavallaro, PhD; sisters, Minnie Hernandez, Carmen Saenz, Ernestine MacLennan, and Helen Giardina.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chinnavuth DeMonteiro and his staff at Diablo Valley Primary Care, Dr. John Ganey at Epic Care, and Hospice East Bay for their care, support, and kindness.
