Pittsburg
Ruben Claudio Tuazon, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at John Muir Medical Center, Concord. He touched so many lives with his kind gentle spirit and positive outlook on life.
Ruben was born in Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines in May 12, 1937. He spent his younger years working and helping his mother run their store in the market. In 1951, he fell in love with his childhood friend named Leonicia Gomez, as they both participated in a "Philippine Sarswela" which isa play generally written in the prose with songs and dances that tells a story about romantic connections of Filipinos. In December 23, 1956 Ruben married Leonicia and they were blessed to have eight children. Together they started building a family filled with love and such wonderful joy.
With the great determination and strong hope to give the best life he can provide to his family, specially to his children, Ruben held different types of job in the Philippines including carpenter, busboy in a hotel, and kalesa driver which is commonly known as "kutsero". He also worked as a jeepney driver for over 30 years before he and his wife migrated to the United States in August 1993 to live with their eldest daughter and her family. In the US, he served as a donation attendant at Goodwill Industries for more than 10 years prior to his retirement in November 2004. Ruben always believed that education is one of the most important inheritance he as a parent can give to his children. As a fulfilled dream, Ruben and his wife were able to send their eight children to school and all eight finished their college degrees.
In 2007, Ruben accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, and from that day forward, his desire was to please God. He consistently attended the weekly mass and service at the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Antioch, California and has previously attended church at the St. Peter Martyr Parish church in Pittsburg, California where he and his wife has been honored by the community for being a great example of loving couples.
Ruben enjoyed gardening, cooking, word-finding puzzles, watching The Filipino Channel, spending time with his family and relaxing on his favorite bench in front of their home with his youngest grand-child.
Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Leonicia; and children Jose and Arminda Tuazon of Wisconsin, Leonardo and Susan Tuazon of the Philippines, Derlyn and Pete Cahill of Lincoln, Doris and Robby Higgins of Wisconsin, Victoria and Ronald Bernal of the Philippines, Barbara and John Cornel of the Philippines, Mary Grace and Jan Sarmiento of Pittsburg, and Bernadette and John Salas of Antioch. He is also survived by his 17 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Angela Tuazon.
