Salvador Lucca, son of Rosario and Catherine (Rappa) Lucca, was born in "French-Algeria" and served in the French Navy. In 1951 he came to the United States as a fisherman and resided in Monterey, CA. It was there that he met Mary DiMaggio, whom he married in 1953. They raised four children in Pittsburg.
Sal was employed as a machine operator/supervisor at Western CA Canners/ Tillie Lewis Foods. He loved his backyard with its fruit trees and vegetables. He also enjoyed fishing in the Delta and playing Bocce Ball alongside his late brothers Joseph and Francois Lucca.
In 1991, Sal gathered some friends and organized "Year Round-Indoor Bocce Ball". He built a model of the courts, which was later used to create the indoor bocce courts at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds.
Sal enjoyed the company of family, friends and his chocolate lab, Verdon. He also loved apple turnovers and Italian cookies.
Sal is survived by his children: Sal Lucca, Catherine (Dennis) Lucca-Biel, Rosalie (Matthew) Campbell and Michael (Korrin) Lucca, nine grandchildren Nancy, Julie, Rachael, Paul, Andrew, Luke, Briana, Nico, Dante, a brother Erasmo (Josephine) Lucca who resides in France, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2pm with a vigil at 4pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Monday April 27, 2015 at 10:30am at St. Ignatius of Antioch. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
