Salvador was born March 24, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Jose and Josephine Sanchez. He was the oldest of 12 children.  He attended Tulare Union High School in California until he was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 18.  On May 9, 1947 he married the love of his life, Mary Elena Prado in Reno, Nevada. Salvador's education was cut short after the 11 ^th grade, when he was drafted in the war.

Salvador fought valiantly in combat for his country in World War ll, stationed in the Pacific Islands of New Guinea. His ranking was Corporal, and he received multiple medals of achievements, including a medal awarded for top marksman and Elite Infantry Division. He was very proud of his service and for the remainder of his life his support and commitment to those who served in the armed forces was constant.

After a short employment in the agriculture field, he went on to work at the U.S. Steel Mill in Pittsburg where he was employed for 35 years in the Tin Finishing Department.  His stellar work ethic kept him working long, hard days and nights to support his family.  He and his wife, Mary owned the family home in Shore Acres, West Pittsburg for about 35 years. It was the place where the neighborhood kids and family members created many wonderful memories!

Salvador enjoyed spending time with family and as a young father he enjoyed taking his family camping, fishing, attending sporting events, working on cars, inviting other families over, where the children would run outside and play together while the adults played cards and enjoyed delicious homecooked food!    He also was very active with his son's high school football careers and hardly missed a baseball/football game of his many grandsons and great-grandsons.

He was also an all around handy man who enjoyed working on cars.

Salvador was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Our Lady Queen of the World  Catholic church and later Good Shepherd in West Pittsburg and Pittsburg.

Salvador is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Mary Sanchez. 3 children Linda (Antioch), Joseph and Christine Sanchez (Antioch) and Marylou and Marc Epstein (Oakley). He was also the step father to a daughter, Francis (Sacramento).  Grandchildren Yvette, Billy, Tiffany, Paula, Jesse, Aaron, Joaquin, Sophia, Michelle, Michael, and JR. and a host of great-grandchildren. Siblings Mingo, Gloria, Rudy, Connie, Benji, Maria, Abigail and Yolanda. He had many, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by one son, Salvador Jr. and one daughter Rosemary, granddaughter Rochelle, grandson Salvador, brothers Jesse and Joe and one sister, Paula.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 7, 2018 at 4:00pm with a Vigil at 7pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Tuesday May 8, 2018 at 10:30am at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Church. Committal services following at  Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch.
