Obituary

Salvatore Samuel Cardinale, age 76 of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away due to complications from lung cancer in his home on Saturday, August 3, 2024, to be reunited with his beloved wife of 41-years Laura Katherine Brophy Cardinale.

He was born November 22, 1947, in Pittsburg, California. During his youth, he played for the Mallard's first year Pop Warner football team. The members of the 1961-1963 teams were all invited to Washington, DC to meet President John F. Kennedy. Sadly, President Kennedy was assassinated on 11/22/1963 before they could meet him, so they attended his funeral on 11/25/1963.

Salvatore was a member of the 1964 Pittsburg High School football team that went undefeated and won the league championship. He and his fellow teammates were inducted into the Pittsburg High School Hall of Fame in 2014 for their accomplishments.

After graduating from Pittsburg High School, he proudly served as an active-duty Gunner in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. After finishing his service, he began his career at PG&E, where he worked for over 30-years. He then moved on to work for California ISO where he worked until he retired in 2012.

He grew up with a love for deer and duck hunting, which he continued to do his entire life. He also enjoyed collecting duck decoys with his life-long best friend, Vince Aiello and collecting Autumn Leaf dishes with his wife, Laura. Everyone knew he loved an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Sal was one of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Jenny Cardinale. His brothers, Pete and Dave Cardinale, and his sisters, Nancy Billeci, and Rosalie Thompson.

He was a faithful and devoted husband to his wife Laura. Together, they loved spoiling their kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his four children, Dina (Richard) Allison, Andrew (Heather) Cardinale, Salvatore (Sara) Cardinale and Jennifer Cardinale. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, with one more great grandson on the way. He is also survived by his sisters, Andrea Cardinale Gott, AnnaMarie Cardinale Garcia, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 9:30am with a chapel blessing at 11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch.
