Salvatore Troia a former Pittsburg resident passed away in Antioch, on January 27, at the age of 101. Uncle Sal, as he was known to most, was a hard worker, and he was part of the construction crew that rebuilt Pearl Harbor after the December 7th, 1941 bombing. He also worked at his father's barber shop when he was young, and after returning home from Hawaii he became a milkman delivering for Borden's and Crystal milk companies. He also continued working as a part-time barber.
He enjoyed bowling with his wife Marie who preceded him in death, and was an avid sports fan. He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Bessie Di Maggio (Neno), Nina Salvetti, Michael (Rita), John, and Tony (Florence) Troia. He is survived by his son Vincent, and a brother Joseph Troia, and many nieces and nephews, and caring friends and family.
Uncle Sal was very generous at heart. He lived a life full of hard work and always had a wonder story to tell about his family and the events he lived through. He will be sorely missed.
A Memorial mass will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10am at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
