Obituary

Senaido Thomas Lopez Jr., 71, of Pittsburg, California, passed away on July 8th, 2024.

Senaido "Sy" Lopez was born in Martinez on June 4th, 1953 to Senaido Lopez Sr., and Carolina Piña. While Senaido's mother passed away during childbirth, he was blessed with the presence of a woman who stepped into the role of mother with fortitude and grace. Maria "Cuca" Lopez raised Senaido, and his respect and adoration of her clearly reflected the love she poured into his life.

Senaido attended Marina Elementary School, continued his education at Central Junior High, and completed his secondary education at Pittsburg Senior High School. After graduating in 1971, he went on to work at the naval weapons station. Senaido also spent time working for the Viacom Cable company.

Senaido joined the fire academy in 1972. He started at the Riverview Fire Department, which eventually integrated into the Contra Costa County Fire District, kickstarting a 36-year career as our beloved fireman.

Senaido met the love of his life, Theresa, on Christmas Eve in 1974, and they were married in 1976. Together they have four children, Carlos, Gabriel, Felicia, and Nicole.

In 2008, Senaido retired from the Contra Costa Fire Department and spent his time enjoying his grandbabies, cherishing family & friends, and serving all those he loved with exceptional devotion and dedication.Senaido was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as an infant sister. He is survived by his children, Carlos, Gabe (and wife Michelle), Felicia, Nicole; his brothers, William García (and wife Dalia) and Luis Lopez; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and the treasured Blue Boy.

Senaido's greatest joy was his 9 grandchildren; Antonio, Tamia, Eliana, Niko, Donivan, Javoni, Romeo, Giancarlo, and Emilio. His pride was unmistakably evident by the twinkle in his eyes, the awe in his expression, the prestige in his words, and his genuine enthusiasm by their mere existence. Senaido was steadfast in his commitment to support every grandbaby, as they each held a special place in his heart. He loved attending their sporting events and even umpired a few games.

Senaido will be honored with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 17th, starting at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel at 11 am and continuing at the Pittsburg Elks Lodge from 2 pm - 6 pm.
