Obituary

Sergio Hernandez Perez, 64, of Pittsburg, CA, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Puerto Rico to Juan Hernandez and Gloria Perez, Sergio was an inquisitive and determined young boy. He possessed a deep appreciation for the art of mechanics and dedicated his life to understanding their inner workings, alongside his unwavering commitment to his family. Following his graduation from La 90th High School in Puerto Rico, he went on to learn a trade at Carlos F. Daniels Vocational School in Puerto Rico where he studied Auto Mechanics. Sergio married Evelyn Torres in 1977. In 1982, the couple made their way to Pittsburg, California where they raised five children. It was there that Sergio embarked on his career as an automotive mechanic, specializing in European sports cars. Over the course of nearly four decades, his passion for his craft flourished. Known for his keen observations, analytical mind, and occasional wit, Sergio was a man of few words. Yet, when he spoke, his words carried great weight, captivating the attention of all who listened. Many people including his children would describe him as the smartest man they knew. As a loving and supportive father, he provided the strong foundation upon which his family thrived. In his leisure time, Sergio's hands were always busy creating and building, a testament to his boundless passion in mechanics.
Sergio's devotion to his family was unparalleled. He was a devoted son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, serving as a constant source of inspiration to those around him. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work and self-assurance, encouraging them to always forge their own paths. As a result, his children pursued successful careers in healthcare, legal services, and contracting. Towards the end of his life Sergio remained resilient and continued to find strength in his family.

He is survived by his mother Gloria, and three brothers Jorge, Daniel and Junior, his spouse Evelyn, his five children Glorimar, Yadira, Sergio (Katrina), Evelyn (David), and Veronica (Sean), as well as his 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who he loved dearly. Sergio leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination.

In loving memory of our father, Sergio Hernandez Perez. One of the kindest souls on the planet who faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was a man of few words, he taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. He will be deeply missed by his family, extended relatives, and countless friends whose lives he touched. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration for all who knew him. Father, you are now at peace, but you live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much rest in peace.
