Sheryl passed away at home on Tuesday after a valiant three year battle with lung cancer. Sheryl was born in San Francisco and attended Balboa High School and San Francisco City College. After moving to Contra Costa County, Sheryl began her 28 years in public service as a Police/Fire Dispatcher. She worked for the Pittsburg Police Department, Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, and retired from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District in 2008.Sheryl was preceded by her father Walter and mother
Mary. She is survived by her loving family and friends; including her husband
Don Benson, sister Stephanie Catchings (Tom), brother Glenn Young, nephew
Grant Young, nephew Michael Catchings (Becky), great nephews Cole and Milo Catchings and baby on the way. Niece Jennifer Catchings, stepson Daniel Benson (Jodi), best friends Susan Pereira (Bob Southard) and niece Jordyn, Sheryl also leaves her loving pets, Oreo, Sylvester, Stripers, Charcoal, and Goldie.
