Obituary

Mr. Steven James Berryman passed away on July 19, 2025, in Antioch, California, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 1, 1947, in Wisconsin, Steve lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an enduring appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Steve pursued his education at Heald College, where he earned a degree in accounting—a field that would shape much of his professional journey. He dedicated two decades of his career to Sonoco Fiber Drum in Pittsburg, California. Later, he continued his work as an accounting manager at a publishing company in Concord, California. His commitment to precision and reliability made him a valued colleague throughout his career.

Before embarking on his civilian life and career, Steve served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His service was recognized with the prestigious Presidential Unit Citation—an emblem of the bravery and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.

Steve was known for finding joy in the everyday. Whether tending to his garden or firing up the barbecue grill, he embraced each moment with enthusiasm. A devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland A's, Steve rarely missed a game and took great pleasure in cheering on his teams. He also loved to travel, always eager to explore new places and experiences.

Though Steve described himself as a free spirit when it came to religion, he lived with deep gratitude and reverence for life. His ability to find happiness in even the smallest tasks was one of his most remarkable qualities—one that left a lasting impression on those around him.

Steve is lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty seven years, Erlinda Berryman; sister Teresa Berryman; brothers-in-law John Grabek and Edgar Mataba; sisters-in-laws Pacita Grabek and Lorie Mataba; nieces Donna Dougherty and Jocelyn Garcia, nephews Rickey Dougherty, and Javier Garcia; as well as numerous extended family members who knew him as a great uncle and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents Eileen and Walter Berryman and his sister Donalda  Hampton.

A memorial service honoring Steve's life will be held at a later date.

May Steven James Berryman's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of the beauty found in life's simplest moments.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm with a chapel blessing at 3:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
