Teresa Joann
Coray
May 6, 1958 — Mar 20, 2023
Oakland
Teresa Joann Coray said her final aloha on March 20, 2023, at the age of 64 from leukemia and accompanying health complications. Teresa was born on May 6, 1958, to Conchita "Connie" and John "Al" Albert Coray in Pittsburg, CA, as the youngest of 6 siblings. After graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1976, Teresa joined the U.S. Army where she officially trained as a tank mechanic and unofficially destroyed everyone at playing foosball. She received an Honorable Discharge to give birth to her daughter, Patricia. As a child, her adorable dimples let her get away with a fair amount of mischief, from trying to jump hedges in her roller skates like her idol, Evel Knievel, to sneaking the family's puppy, Napoleon, into her overalls' pocket. If Teresa wasn't pitching on the softball field she was found running around in a Hawaiian shirt, taking photographs, and cracking jokes. Photography was her passion, but her true fulfillment came in the form of bringing joy to others. She was always willing to go on a spontaneous adventure. Want a corndog from Disneyland? She'd make the 6+ hour drive at a moment's notice (but she'd make it in under 5). One of her biggest adventures was moving to Lahaina, Hawaii, for 8 years. She absolutely loved working in customer service and her time spent working with tourists from around the world was some of her happiest. She lived big and she loved even bigger. To be loved by Teresa was to be accepted as family, no blood-relation necessary.
Teresa is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Suzi) Elzie-Tuttle and her wife Nicole Elzie-Tuttle, of Oakland, CA; She was preceded in death by her brother, John Coray, and is also survived by her siblings, Diane Carroll of Wellington, NV, Ron Coray of Bethel Island, CA, Patricia Coray of San Francisco, CA, and Robert Coray of Visalia, CA; countless nieces, nephews, and their children; and the hundreds of lives she touched by loving out loud.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 10:00am-12:30pm, a break between 12:30pm-1:00pm and a celebration of life beginning at 1:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
