Thomas "Tom" Dean Caldwell, 62, of Pittsburg, California, passed away on July 22, 2021, of natural causes. Tom was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 9, 1958, to proud parents Dean and Nancy Caldwell, and he was the second of four children. The family moved to California in 1971, and Tom graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1976, where he was co-valedictorian of his class. He went on to the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. in Applied Mathematics (1980) and served enthusiastically as a concessionaire for the women's athletic program.

Tom started his career as an associate with Mervyn's, where he worked for 21 years in multiple locations. In 2003, he accepted a position at Jenkins-Athens Insurance in Concord, which was later acquired by Edgewood Partners Insurance Center (EPIC) in 2014. Tom most recently served as a compensation accounting specialist in the accounting department, where he was a vital team member until the time of his death. Tom was honored with awards many times during his career for his indefatigable work ethic, dedication, supportive nature, problem solving skills, and love for his work and coworkers, whom he truly considered his second family, maintaining many close friendships with coworkers for decades. Tom was also a selfless, kind, and compassionate person, consistently putting the needs of others before his own. Friendship was one of the joys of his life, and his friends from junior high and high school were deeply important to him throughout his life.

Tom was a true sports fanatic in every sense of the word, attending dozens of events every year, the majority with his beloved mother and sister, and close friends. He loved to cheer on the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A's, Sacramento River Cats, Stockton Ports, Golden State Warriors, San Jose Sharks, Cal Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Oakland Raiders. He was also a lifelong New York Mets fan. In addition to his love for sports, Tom was also known amongst friends and family for his collections of pigs, Star Trek memorabilia, and sports collectibles. Tom was an avid walker, and he loved taking and sharing photos of turkeys, cows, sunsets, clouds, and flowers.

Tom was preceded in death by his father Dean in 1986, and he is survived by his mother Nancy and sister Deena of Pittsburg, brother Timothy (Madison) of Jersey City, New Jersey, brother Michael of Long Beach, California, and nephew Jacob of Royal Oak, Michigan.

A celebration of Tom's life will take place later in 2021. The family requests that donations in his honor be made to the Junior Giants organization through the San Francisco Giants Community Fund at https://www.mlb.com/giants/ community/fund .
