Obituary

It is with unbelievable sadness and an eternally broken heart that the Lord called to Heaven one of his Earthly Angels. Vera Lucia Petta passed away suddenly during the morning of September 16.

Vera was born in Carazinho, Brasil on February 11, 1960, to Eldo and Julieta Freitag. She came with her family to the United States in 1967.  They eventually settled in Southern California, Vera graduating from Hawthorne High School in 1978. One of her favorite sayings was that she went to the same high school as the Beach Boys.

At the urging of her best friend Sheri Hahlbeck Schaffer, she started work with Southern Wine and Spirits Distributing. She handled commercial accounts at various offices which finally brought her to Northern California. She left Southern and worked at Specialty Uniform Company where she put on display her unmatched talents as a seamstress.

One day in August of 1995 a Postal Worker came in to pick up an order. Mike Petta and Vera were a perfect match from that first meeting and were married in Las Vegas on March 9, 1996.

Vera raised her stepson Lance from day one, they LOVED each other'

The past few years Vera has enjoyed retirement; however, she did do Election Poll work for Contra Costa County.  It was her personal obligation to give back to her new country, as she became a Naturalized Citizen in 1997.  More recently she has been a Mommy to her fur-babies Bo and Artie as well as keeping watch and feeding her precious hummingbirds in the backyard.

Vera joins her parents in Heaven and her other fur babies, Megan Faith and Milo. She is survived by Mike and Lance, as well as her sister Liz Kaintz (Dave), brother Paulo Freitag (Leda), niece Jacque King (Gary), and their daughters Cassidy and Amaya, nephew Cody Kaintz (Michael), and nephews Matthew (Claire) and Jared Freitag (Natalie). Vera is also remembered by her sisters-in law Susan Gould (Curt), Debra Hisrhsfield (Art), and Brother-in-law Steve Petta (Armida) as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
