Obituary

William James Allen, fondly known as June, was born October 17, 1932, in Tampa, FL to the late Anna and Willie Allen. He enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage to the late Bettye Jane Allen. He graduated from St. Benedict Moor Catholic School in Tampa. He attended Middleton Senior High School in Tampa, then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1951-1954. He was a Korean War Veteran. He was known as Lump-Lump by friends and family in Tampa, a name he earned as pitcher for a local softball league. Lump-Lump also enjoyed swimming, playing basketball and catching crabs with friends.

William moved to Pittsburg, California in 1954 after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He retired from construction work after nearly 30 years, then began a second career as a Maintenance Supervisor for Cowell Homeowners Association. He worked for them for 20 years.

William befriended many neighborhood children by fixing their bicycles, skateboards and other toys. And he loved feeding stray cats and dogs.

William is survived by one son, Jeffrey, Sacramento, California; two daughters, Patricia Allen-Jones, Tampa, FL, and Yvonne Kidd, Titusville, FL; four grandchildren, Faith, Sacramento, California, Yolanda (Peach) and Carl Kidd, Titusville, FL, and Aaron Tule, Pittsburg; and one great grandson Carlone Kidd, Titusville, FL. One sister Roslind Marshall, Tampa, Florida. He is preceded in death by his brother David and daughter Debra.

William was a member of St. Peter Martyr Catholic Church in Pittsburg and the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Fraternal Organization, where he obtained the rank as Third Degree Knight.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 10:00am with chapel blessing at 11:00am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Military burial will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11:00am at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
