William "Bill"
Mutz
Sep 28, 1932 — May 21, 2018
Bethel Island
Bill Mutz of Bethel Island passed away on May 21, 2018. Bill was born in 1932 in Arizona and moved to San Jose, CA where he grew up, graduating Lincoln High School. Bill was one of 6 children born to Walter and Eunice Mutz and siblings included Tom, Walter, Frank, Jerry and Janet. Bill was an accomplished athlete playing baseball, basketball and football throughout childhood and high school. After graduating High School he joined the United States Marine Corp and deployed to fight in the Korean War. Bill received two meritorious promotions, receiving an honorable discharge as a Buck Sgt. Shortly after, he met and married Carol Bernice Hanna and settled in San Jose with a career in Office Furnishing Sales, raising a family of 4 including Timothy, Cheryl, Theresa and Brian. Once the children grew up, he and his wife Carol moved to the fishing community of Bethel Island. Bill was an avid fisherman, learning everything about fishing from his Father Walter. After his wife Carol passed away in 2000, Bill remarried Marietta and they continued to live in Bethel Island.
Bill had the gift of story-telling, encouragement, laughter, keeping track of the most finite details and had a smile that could persuade people to do anything they set their mind to. He was deeply loved and will be missed every day.
Bill leaves behind a wife, 3 children, one brother, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and dear friends.
A celebration service is being held at Bill's favorite place Henry Cowell State Park in Felton, CA on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 1:00pm.
